What determines the age groupings?
SVBSA follows the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA guidelines for softball. These state that a player's age on August 31st determines which division that player will be eligible to play in the following year. The association also allows players to request to play in an older division based on school grade during registration (there is a checkbox). Requests to play in a higher age group are subject to approval. Examples of requests include:
1. Player is 6 years old and in 1st grade – they can request to play in 8U
2. Player is 8 years old and in 3rd grade – they can request to play in 10U
3. Player is 10 years old and in 5th grade – they can request to play in 12U
4. Player is 12 years old and in 7th grade – they can request to play in 15U
